About

About The Founder

Len Meyer (pronouns; they/them) is a noted speaker, consultant, and educator regarding transgender health care and LGBTQ+ health care. Currently, Meyer works as an LGBTQI+ Diversity Trainer. Meyer has previously served as the Downstate Community Engagement Manager at Planned Parenthood of Illinois and the Executive Director of the Central Illinois Pride Health Center. Meyer consulted with the Illinois Department of Corrections and was the previous Community Co-Chair for the HIV planning committee through the Illinois Department of Public Health. Additionally, Meyer served as a Transgender Trainer for the US Department of Justice in Illinois and Missouri. Meyer has both a bachelor's and master's in Healthcare Administration Services and is currently working on their doctorate in Healthcare Administration. Len believes in a pragmatic approach to teaching and facilitating with a DEIA lens focusing on understanding the health disparities and barriers to health, especially faced by the 2SLGTBQIA+ community. Len's eight-year career consists of supporting and educating students and staff about psychological safety and trust, allowing everyone to live their true authentic lives.

Participants appreciate the fact that they feel safe in asking Len the ‘real’ questions they carry around daily. Concepts people wonder about but are never sure who to ask, how to ask, or if it’s okay to ask (i.e., proper terminology, etc.). They appreciate that they could be honest with Len and know their inquiries were being accepted as an interest in learning and growing.  Len ensures they come away feeling more competent and confident.

Affirmation Through Language

In English, our most commonly used pronouns (he/she) specifically refer to a person’s gender. For queer, gender non-conforming, non-binary, and transgender people, these pronouns are not one size fits all and can create discomfort, stress, and anxiety for many. In this session, the presenter will share the importance of appropriately using pronouns and provide opportunities to practice verbally and within writing communications.

LGBTQIA+ Intimate Partner Violence.

This training will include guided conversations about what it’s like being LGBTQIA+, reviewing basic terminology, and breaking down barriers LGBTQIA+ people face in intimate relationships. The training helps healthcare personnel, social workers, and community resources support the community facing violence.

As part of Carle Health’s gender inclusive education programming, Len presented in February 2022 on “How to Support and Advocate for LGBTQIA+ Patients.” Their approach to educating and speaking has a meaningful impact in creating knowledge and understanding in a way that is informative, approachable and accountable. Each time I’ve heard Len speak, I’m struck by how they have such a skill for finding that “discomfort sweet spot,” where learners are able to identify how bias, exclusion, and stigma harm LGBTQIA+ patients and to feel accountable and empowered to actively practice allyship. Learners who hear Len speak leave the session with tangible ways to make healthcare a safer and more inclusive place.

Working with Len was a fantastic experience! We hosted an inclusive education series for our health system and Len provided a well-rounded training. I appreciated Len’s willingness to cultivate a talk to our needs and their ability to meet multiple times for planning and speaking. The session focused on supporting and advocating for LGBTQIA+ patients, this introduced many new terms and was incredibly educational . I would highly recommend working with and learning from Len.
